Waiorongomai Camp

Last week we went on a fantastic camp to Waiorongomai Farm.  The weather on Thursday threatened to spoil our plans, but we were determined to not let it beat us.

Our day started in the classroom with a Waiorongomai Homestead and Farm Webquest.  We then considered all of the things that could potentially go wrong while we were camping, who was responsible for preventing these from happening, and how we can prevent them.

As it was raining most of the morning, we decided to stay in town until towards the end of the day.  We ventured over to the Kiwi Hall after morning tea to play some camp games, and set up a chair and sheet Tent City.

Just after 3:30, it was time to head out to our real camping site - even though it was still raining.  We had a stop at the amazingly clean woolshed (thanks Karla!) while we considered whether it was too wet to set up tents.  The rain appeared to be easing so we moved on to the camp site.

Quick chat at base camp then time to set up house!

Once everything was in place and our beds were prepared, it was time to put something in those empty tummies.  Burgers were on the menu, with fruit salad and cream for desert.  Cards and Connect 4 kept everyone busy for a while as the light started to diminish, then twilight called for camouflage in the bush, softball and quick game of spotlight.

After a rainy night, we woke up very early to a fine morning.  With breakfast eaten and beds packed away, the cards and Connect 4 came out again.

While our tents were drying, there was time for another visit to the bush for more games of camouflage...

... food, cards then back to school for a hot chip lunch and movie.

We would like to say a HUGE thank you to Mrs O'Driscoll and Rick for coming along to help, and to Mrs Watson for making the camp so awesome.  Although we lost three of our classmates to illness and injury, the camp went well due to the students being so well behaved.  This was a great way to finish the year together!!
