Wairarapa Moana Action

As part of our action as Wairarapa Moana Kaitiaki, and following on from our learning in Term 1, Takitimu have adopted a section of Donald's Creek to monitor and look after.  Our first monitoring day was on the 23rd August 2016.  What we found was surprising; we discovered that the stream was in better health at this time of the year than we initially predicted.

To maintain the stream's health throughout the year, we have identified that it needs shade which would be provided by planting native trees along the top of the bank.  We had planned to plant this area before the end of the year, but unfortunately this looks unlikely until next year due to regulations and the time needed to prepare the site.  We will be, however, continuing to monitor the stream throughout next term as the weather starts to get warmer, to see the changes in the water quality and diversity of aquatic life.

And, as you can see, we found and caught a RAT in our nets!!

Performance Art

As part of our Arts term, we were learning about performance dance and routines.  The Year 8 girls choreographed a fantastic dance, which was practiced and performed by 20 Year 5-8 girls at the South Wairarapa Arts Performance, and our Arts Celebration afternoon.   The Year 4-8 boys developed strength routines and contemporary dance poses based on a variety of stimuli, performing this at the Arts Celebration also.

Throughout the term, all of students were developing their understanding of dance in the performance context, and were able to prepare and share their dance movements.

Well done everyone!

At the end of Arts Celebration, the Kapa Haka group performed their amazing waiata and haka.  Look out for them performing at the Kapa Haka Festival early next term.

Visual Art

This term we have been learning about, and creating, visual art using a number of different media and techniques.  Check out the photos of us hard at work, and our final products.
