Wairarapa Moana Action

As part of our action as Wairarapa Moana Kaitiaki, and following on from our learning in Term 1, Takitimu have adopted a section of Donald's Creek to monitor and look after.  Our first monitoring day was on the 23rd August 2016.  What we found was surprising; we discovered that the stream was in better health at this time of the year than we initially predicted.

To maintain the stream's health throughout the year, we have identified that it needs shade which would be provided by planting native trees along the top of the bank.  We had planned to plant this area before the end of the year, but unfortunately this looks unlikely until next year due to regulations and the time needed to prepare the site.  We will be, however, continuing to monitor the stream throughout next term as the weather starts to get warmer, to see the changes in the water quality and diversity of aquatic life.
